IntroductionPanwali kantha is a high-altitude trek in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. It is the least explored and least trodden. This region of Uttarakhand is especially known for its exhilarating landscapes. Panwali kantha trek is at the elevation of 3500 M which is 11,500ft. The trail is filled with red and pink rhododendrons, especially during April and May. Also, you get to see the rarest view of the Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath peaks.You also get to see some clear views of the Thaley Sagar, Meru, Neelkanth, and Chaukhamba peaks. The trail passes through seven Bugyal(s). And Panwali Bugyal is filled with shepherds. The Panwali Bugyal / meadows are the home to many rarest Himalayan species as well. Furthermore, if you are lucky enough you could spot the blue mountain goat. Also, in every season the shades change. Panwali Kantha trek is a moderate-level trek with the rarest views.Best Time to Trek:The best time to trek the Panwali kantha is April to May which is the spring summer season. And post-monsoon which is September to October which is the autumn season. The summer season is recommended as the weather is quite pleasant. At night the temperature drops but it is still tolerable. Monsoon months starting from June till august it's not recommended. Due to rains, there are cases of avalanches, landslides, cloud bursts, flooding, etc. post-monsoon months such as September to October are recommended. Right after the rainfall, the view changes into lush emerald green, the valley gets filled with flowers. During summer the temperatures will be between 10-15 degrees. During winters the temperatures drop to 0 to -10 degrees. During winter months starting from November till march due to heavy snowfall, there is not much accommodation open. Trail: 180 km (8-hour drive) Campsite: Ghuttu The highlight of the day: Ghuttu village. Today you need to drive from Dehradun. Start early morning as it is going to be 8 hour's drive to Ghuttu. The drive will be filled with scenic aura filled with meadows, and hamlets of Uttarakhand. We recommend reaching Ghuttu village by 3 pm. So that you can take a rest for the day and gear for the next day of the trek. Meanwhile, you can also explore the cultural village. Overnight stay at Ghuttu village.
Trail: 9 km (6-7 hours of trek) Campsite: Phobagi village The highlight of the day: Phobagi campsite Trek: Today we will begin our trek right after breakfast. The trail is easy to moderate. There are minor ascents. Today you will be crossing thick patches of Buransh forest. The trail today will be quite comfortable. After 6-7 hours of trekking, you will reach Phobagi campsite. And the sunset from here is something which you cannot miss. Overnight stay at the campsite.
Trail: 11 km (6-7 hours of trek) Campsite: Raj Kharak village The highlight of the day: Panwali top and the quaint campsite at Raj Kharak. Trek: Today we will leave our campsite early and we will start towards Raj Kharak. Today?s trek has some ascent and it varies from moderate to difficult. If there is snow on the trail, it will be a bit challenging ascent. After 2 hours of trekking, you will reach the Panwali top. It is a vast huge meadow. If it is covered with snow the view changes dramatically. The whole landscape challenges from green to white in a blink of an eye. The vast grassland is awe-inspiring. After enjoying the views at the top, we will head towards our next campsite Raj Kharak. After crossing Panwali Top we will reach our campsite. Overnight stay at the campsite.
Trail: 8 km (4-5 hours of trek) Campsite: Gaurmanda campsite The highlight of the day: Gaurmanda campsite Trek: Well, today is a very easygoing day. It will be a very relaxing and fun descent you have your own flexibility to explore the trail while returning to Gaurmanda. The trail is filled with beautiful landscapes. This trek is like a real-life postcard visual. After a gradual descent, you will reach Gaurmanda campsite. You can relax and overnight stay at the campsite.
Trail: 5 km (2-3 hours of trek) & 183 km (8-hour drive) Campsite: Ghuttu- Dehradun The highlight of the day: Back to Dehradun. You can explore Dehradun & famous food joints. Trek: Today will be the last day of the Panwali kantha trek. We will start early morning from Gaurmanda to Ghuttu. The descent is easy and not rough. You will be returning to the first original campsite. From where your journey to Panwali Bugyal began. By afternoon you will reach Ghuttu and from there you can take shared cabs or taxis to Dehradun. You will be reaching Dehradun by late evening. Also, if you have enough time, you can visit the Paltan bazaar of Dehradun and go shopping too. You could either relax at Dehradun and treat yourself to cozy cafes or you can take the bus to your respective destination.

The trek begins from Dehradun. Dehradun is easily accessible through road, rail, and air transport. Here is how you can reach: By Road You can take an overnight bus from Delhi to Dehradun. Both UKSRTC buses and Volvo buses are available from Delhi ISBT to Dehradun. The distance from Delhi to Dehradun is about 247 km. You can also hire a taxi or an outstation cab from Delhi to Dehradun. By Rail There are a number of trains running between Delhi and Dehradun like Dehradun Express, Mussoorie Express, Nanda Devi Express. It is advisable to make your train bookings a month in advance. By Air The Jolly Grant Airport is the airport in Dehradun. There are multiple flights from New Delhi to Dehradun. Make your booking well in advance for economic fare.

BSNL network is available till Ghuttu but post that the network is mostly unavailable. There can be a ray of hope at Guarmanda but nothing reliable. No network post that on the trail.

What is the minimum & maximum age limit?

The minimum age limit is 9 years. However, minors aged between 9 to 17 should be accompanied with their parents or guardians. If you are above the age of 60, kindly carry a medical certificate from your doctor that deem you fit for adventure activities like trekking.

What kind of tents and sleeping bags will be provided to us?

We provide 4 seasons tents by Gipfel for higher altitudes which can easily withstand heavy snowfall and storms. They are spacious enough to accomodate 3 people at once with a vestibule to place the backpacks. Our sleeping bags are made up of Heatseeker Pro synthetic insulation that can provide you comfort in -10 degrees celsius. We also use additional fleece liners to have thermal efficiency even in the extreme temperatures of -17 degrees Celsius. If you carry your own sleeping bag, you will get a cashback reward provided that you inform us as soon as you have booked your trek.

Are there any washroom/toilet facilities on the trek?

Toilet tents will be provided to you on the trek.These are portable toilets tents where a deep pit will be dug. A shovel will be provided inside the tent to cover the waste after you have made your business. You can take a toilet roll inside. Make sure you dig used toilet paper along with the waste. Though water is recommended in place of toilet paper. Please refrain from using wet wipes as they are non-biodegradable.

If we trek in snow, what equipment will you provide?

You will be provided with good quality of gaiters and microspikes from us depending upon the situation of the snow. Our trek leaders will also be carrying ropes and ice axe.

What kind of food will be provided for the trek?

Vegetarian food will be served throughout the trek. The only non-vegetarian item served on our treks are eggs. Our kitchen staff follows a proper menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner which has been designed in order to fulfil the nutritional requirements of the participants. There will be milk, poha, eggs, muesli/corn flakes, bread and butter served for breakfast. Rice or simple roti sabzi will be packed for lunch. In dinner, you will have dal, egg curry or any other vegetarian dish along with rice, roti, and a dessert item. Packed lunch will be provided to you on the days you are trekking. You are requested to carry your own tiffin box and a mug to consume food. The meals consumed on journey and arrival day are not included in our cost.

What will the temperatures be like during this trek?

In winters, during the day, the temperature will range from 10-15 degrees celsius. The nights will get cold dropping the temperature to 0 to -8 degrees celsius. Higher the altitude you gain, the colder it gets.

When will there be snow on this trek?

You can expect snows from December to March. It is difficult to expect snow during summers or monsoons.

Is there an option to offload my backpack?

If you want to offload your rucksack, you will have to make a request for offloading a few days prior the trek through an email so that arrangement can be made in advance. You will be charged per day for offloading your rucksack. In case you decide to offload on the spot, you may have to pay a higher price than usual. However offloading your rucksack is not recommended since it is not a safe practice.

Who will lead us on the trek?

A team of participant will be led by a course certified trek leader and a local guide. All participants are requested to abide by what their leader says. There will also be a team of kitchen staff and porters on the trek. We maintain 1:8 ratio of trek leader and participants. All our trek leaders and staff have a certified training in first-aid and rescue operation.

Is the trekking pole necessary?

Yes, trekking pole is necessary. If you don?t want to buy one, you can rent it from us on minimal daily basis charges. You can request the renting link from us.

Are there any local stores/shops from where I can shop trekking necessities?

Dehradun has a reasonable size market. However you will have no time in hand for shopping as you have to head to Ghuttu. Ghuttu is a small village with a very small market. Please do not leave anything for last minute buying.

Is it safe for a solo woman traveller to trek in Fixed departures?

Yes, it is absolutely safe for solo woman to travel in fix departures. Women on the trek will be sharing tent with each other. In case you are the only woman on the trek, you will be given a separate tent.

Will you give certificates on completion of trek?

Yes, e-certificates will be given at the end of each trek provided that you completed it. It will bear your name, the trek, and the maximum altitude you achieved on the trek.

In case we opt for the transport with you, where will you pick us from and where will you drop?

We have one pick-up point: Dehradun ISBT The dropping point remains the same. The dropping point remains the same.

What time will you drop us at the end point on last day of the trek?

Expect to reach Dehradun in the evening. Make sure your bookings from this point to your respective destinations are late in the night, post 2100 Hrs.

Cash Refund (All events including Friendship Peak Expedition except other Mountaineering Expeditions) - Cash refunds are only available for bookings made without any discounts, such as promotional codes or dynamic discounts. Additionally, cash refunds are not available for shifted batch bookings or if the booking status is "Booked". The amount of the refund will be determined based on the following guidelines:


  • • Cancellations made up to 31 days before the departure date will incur a 5% deduction.
  • • Cancellations made between 30 and 21 days before the departure date incur a 20% deduction.
  • • Cancellations made between 20 and 11 days before the departure date incur a 50% deduction.
  • • Cancellations made less than 11 days before the departure date are not eligible for a cash refund.

Refunds will be processed back to the bank account or credit card account used to pay for the event i.e., the source of payment. The amount refunded will be based on the net amount paid for the event, excluding additional components such as transportation, rent, or portage.

The trek begins from Dehradun. Dehradun is easily accessible through road, rail, and air transport. Here is how you can reach: By Road You can take an overnight bus from Delhi to Dehradun. Both UKSRTC buses and Volvo buses are available from Delhi ISBT to Dehradun. The distance from Delhi to Dehradun is about 247 km. You can also hire a taxi or an outstation cab from Delhi to Dehradun. By Rail There are a number of trains running between Delhi and Dehradun like Dehradun Express, Mussoorie Express, Nanda Devi Express. It is advisable to make your train bookings a month in advance. By Air The Jolly Grant Airport is the airport in Dehradun. There are multiple flights from New Delhi to Dehradun. Make your booking well in advance for economic fare.

What is the cellular network connectivity for this trek?

BSNL network is available till Ghuttu but post that the network is mostly unavailable. There can be a ray of hope at Guarmanda but nothing reliable. No network post that on the trail.

Lacchiwalla, Malsi Deer Park, Tapkeshwar Temple are a few other to name.

What is the minimum & maximum age limit?

The minimum age limit is 9 years. However, minors aged between 9 to 17 should be accompanied with their parents or guardians. If you are above the age of 60, kindly carry a medical certificate from your doctor that deem you fit for adventure activities like trekking.

What kind of tents and sleeping bags will be provided to us?

We provide 4 seasons tents by Gipfel for higher altitudes which can easily withstand heavy snowfall and storms. They are spacious enough to accomodate 3 people at once with a vestibule to place the backpacks. Our sleeping bags are made up of Heatseeker Pro synthetic insulation that can provide you comfort in -10 degrees celsius. We also use additional fleece liners to have thermal efficiency even in the extreme temperatures of -17 degrees Celsius. If you carry your own sleeping bag, you will get a cashback reward provided that you inform us as soon as you have booked your trek.

Are there any washroom/toilet facilities on the trek?

Toilet tents will be provided to you on the trek.These are portable toilets tents where a deep pit will be dug. A shovel will be provided inside the tent to cover the waste after you have made your business. You can take a toilet roll inside. Make sure you dig used toilet paper along with the waste. Though water is recommended in place of toilet paper. Please refrain from using wet wipes as they are non-biodegradable.

If we trek in snow, what equipment will you provide?

You will be provided with good quality of gaiters and microspikes from us depending upon the situation of the snow. Our trek leaders will also be carrying ropes and ice axe.

What kind of food will be provided for the trek?

Vegetarian food will be served throughout the trek. The only non-vegetarian item served on our treks are eggs. Our kitchen staff follows a proper menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner which has been designed in order to fulfil the nutritional requirements of the participants. There will be milk, poha, eggs, muesli/corn flakes, bread and butter served for breakfast. Rice or simple roti sabzi will be packed for lunch. In dinner, you will have dal, egg curry or any other vegetarian dish along with rice, roti, and a dessert item. Packed lunch will be provided to you on the days you are trekking. You are requested to carry your own tiffin box and a mug to consume food. The meals consumed on journey and arrival day are not included in our cost.

What will the temperatures be like during this trek?

In winters, during the day, the temperature will range from 10-15 degrees celsius. The nights will get cold dropping the temperature to 0 to -8 degrees celsius. Higher the altitude you gain, the colder it gets.

When will there be snow on this trek?

You can expect snows from December to March. It is difficult to expect snow during summers or monsoons.

Is there an option to offload my backpack?

If you want to offload your rucksack, you will have to make a request for offloading a few days prior the trek through an email so that arrangement can be made in advance. You will be charged per day for offloading your rucksack. In case you decide to offload on the spot, you may have to pay a higher price than usual. However offloading your rucksack is not recommended since it is not a safe practice.

Who will lead us on the trek?

A team of participant will be led by a course certified trek leader and a local guide. All participants are requested to abide by what their leader says. There will also be a team of kitchen staff and porters on the trek. We maintain 1:8 ratio of trek leader and participants. All our trek leaders and staff have a certified training in first-aid and rescue operation.

Is the trekking pole necessary?

Yes, trekking pole is necessary. If you don?t want to buy one, you can rent it from us on minimal daily basis charges. You can request the renting link from us.

Are there any local stores/shops from where I can shop trekking necessities?

Dehradun has a reasonable size market. However you will have no time in hand for shopping as you have to head to Ghuttu. Ghuttu is a small village with a very small market. Please do not leave anything for last minute buying.

Is it safe for a solo woman traveller to trek in Fixed departures?

Yes, it is absolutely safe for solo woman to travel in fix departures. Women on the trek will be sharing tent with each other. In case you are the only woman on the trek, you will be given a separate tent.

Will you give certificates on completion of trek?

Yes, e-certificates will be given at the end of each trek provided that you completed it. It will bear your name, the trek, and the maximum altitude you achieved on the trek.

In case we opt for the transport with you, where will you pick us from and where will you drop?

We have one pick-up point: Dehradun ISBT The dropping point remains the same. The dropping point remains the same.

What time will you drop us at the end point on last day of the trek?

Expect to reach Dehradun in the evening. Make sure your bookings from this point to your respective destinations are late in the night, post 2100 Hrs.

Cash Refund (All events including Friendship Peak Expedition except other Mountaineering Expeditions) - Cash refunds are only available for bookings made without any discounts, such as promotional codes or dynamic discounts. Additionally, cash refunds are not available for shifted batch bookings or if the booking status is "Booked". The amount of the refund will be determined based on the following guidelines:


  • • Cancellations made up to 31 days before the departure date will incur a 5% deduction.
  • • Cancellations made between 30 and 21 days before the departure date incur a 20% deduction.
  • • Cancellations made between 20 and 11 days before the departure date incur a 50% deduction.
  • • Cancellations made less than 11 days before the departure date are not eligible for a cash refund.

Refunds will be processed back to the bank account or credit card account used to pay for the event i.e., the source of payment. The amount refunded will be based on the net amount paid for the event, excluding additional components such as transportation, rent, or portage.
