Itinerary Description
Introduction
Panwali kantha is a high-altitude trek in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. It is the least explored and least trodden. This region of Uttarakhand is especially known for its exhilarating scapes. Panwali kantha trek is at the elevation of 3500 M which is 11,500ft. The trail is filled with red and pink rhododendrons, especially during April and May. Also, you get to see the rarest view of the yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath peaks.
You also get to see some clear views of the Thaley Sagar, Meru, Nilkanth, and Chaukhamba peaks. The trail passes through seven Bugyals. And Panwali Bugyal is filled with shepherds. The Panwali Bugyal / meadows are the home to many rarest himalayan species as well. Furthermore, if you are lucky enough you could spot the blue mountain goat. Also, in every season the shades change. Panwali Kantha trek is a moderate-level trek with the rarest views.
Best Time to Trek:
The best time to trek the Panwali kantha is April to May which is the spring summer season. And post-monsoon which is September to October which is the autumn season. The summer season is recommended as the weather is quite pleasant. At night the temperature drops but it is still tolerable. Monsoon months starting from June till august it's not recommended. Due to rains, there are cases of avalanches, landslides, cloud bursts, flooding, etc. post-monsoon months such as September to October are recommended. Right after the rainfall, the view changes into lush emerald green, the valley gets filled with flowers. During summer the temperatures will be between 10-15 degrees. During winters the temperatures drop to 0 to -10 degrees. During winter months starting from November till march due to heavy snowfall, there is not much accommodation open. But the sight is worth the witness.
Difficulty Level:
Panwali kantha trek is moderate in the recommended months of summer and autumn. During winter the trek becomes difficult. Especially navigating the ridge at kyunkhola pass. The terrains have a gradual moderate ascent. As the elevation rises the terrain gets a little rough. But visuals are a treat to the eyes. You will cross extensive Himalayan Bugyals and dense forests. The maximum attitude will be 3700 M.
