Itinerary Description
Introduction
Tosa Maidan is the biggest meadow in Kashmir. Tosa Maidan means “King of meadows” in Kashmiri. And for a reason, trekkers are smitten with this place. Tosa maidan does have an amazing background story as well. In the year 1964, this area was given on lease to the Indian army to practice army drills. But now since the lease finished it has been developed as the route for explorers.
The main reason it is loved by trekkers is, this place is the least trodden. Kashmir has unprecedented and unexplored beauty. Tosa Maidan is one such place. Tosa Maidan great Trek is in the Bugdam district at an altitude of 4100 M. The whole trek is filled with endless meadows, turquoise glacial lakes, and spectacular campsites. Even though the trek is filled with meadows you must be prepared for some steep forest climbs to reach the destination.
Best Time to Trek:
The best time to go for Tosa Maidan great lakes trek is from July to august. And also during the autumn season September till Mid-November. July to September are the most Favorable months for the Tosi Maidan trek. The other months are shivering cold and receive a lot of snow. Which makes the trek difficult and unfavorable. Also, interestingly the trek welcomes you with grandiose views.
Usually, in July the temperatures are quite moderate between 5 degrees at night to 15-18 degrees during day time. And the snow also starts melting in early July. Since the weather is quite unpredictable in the trans-Himalayan region, you will require 3-4 layers to protect yourself. From July till September, the green vast meadows are visible. The whole valley is covered in wildflowers. The stunning backdrop of rugged mountains and visible peaks during these months will put you in awe.
Difficulty Level:
The Tosi Maidan trek is a moderate-level trek. Apart from splendid views, you will be crossing multiple boulders. Actually, the flow is like coniferous forests meadows boulder crossings to glacial lakes. Beginners can also try this trek with some good physical fitness. It would be definitely an experience. Especially, the final ascent is steep compared to the other parts of the trek. But, interestingly the whole trek is dominated by lush meadows with flower beds.
