Itinerary Description

Grade: Moderate
Location: Kashmir
Maximum Altitude: 2650 mts
Duration: 8 Days

Discover the thrill of gliding on snow with this beginner-friendly snowboarding course set in the breathtaking slopes of Gulmarg, Kashmir. Designed for first-time riders, this six-day program introduces you to the sport through a progressive blend of practical lessons, fun challenges, and scenic mountain experiences. Under the guidance of trained instructors, participants gradually gain the balance, technique, and confidence to ride independently by the end of the week.

The journey begins with an introduction to snowboarding equipment and basic posture on flat ground. You’ll learn how to strap in, stand up safely, and maintain your balance while understanding vital snow-safety tips. As you move to gentle slopes, the focus shifts to controlling speed using heel and toe edges, practicing smooth glides, and learning to stop safely. Guidance from your instructor helps correct habits early, ensuring steady progress.

Midway through the course, you start linking edge movements to perform your first turns. Each day builds on the previous one, leading up to more fluid riding and better edge control on mild inclines. By Day 5, you’re ready to explore longer beginner runs, adapting to different snow conditions while refining your rhythm and movement flow.

On the final day, participants take on a full-length run from top to bottom, putting their new skills to the test. Confident riders can try gentle freestyle moves or small jumps under supervision. The course wraps up with a celebratory ride, marking the start of your snowboarding journey.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in day Welcome to Gulmarg

Arrive in Gulmarg, India’s snowboarding hub, surrounded by stunning Himalayan views. Travel from Srinagar is not included in the course fee, but participants can coordinate shared rides through the WhatsApp group. After checking in, meet your instructors and fellow snowboarders during a short orientation session covering equipment, course plans, and safety guidelines.

Expect cold mountain weather, with temperatures around -5°C, so bring warm, layered clothing and waterproof gear. Spend the evening relaxing with a hot beverage and soaking in the snowy scenery as you get ready to begin your snowboarding lessons the next morning.

Day 2

Introduction & Getting Comfortable on Snow (Strap in/out, Basic Balance drills, stand up, practice Sliding on flat snow & Falling and stoping)

Begin your snowboarding journey with a meet-and-greet session and personalized gear fitting. Learn the fundamentals: how to strap in and out of your board, stand up safely, and maintain balance on flat ground. Practice sliding on gentle snow surfaces while understanding safety basics like falling correctly and stopping without injury.

Day 3

First Glide and Speed Control (Heel edge and Toe edge control, Practicing straight glides and heel-side stops)

Move to the practice area or “baby slopes” for your first real slide on a gentle gradient. Learn how to control your board using the heel and toe edges—an essential skill for balance and slow, safe descents. Work on gliding straight, making short runs, and practicing heel-side stops to gain more stability.

Day 4

Mastering Edge Use and Simple Turns (Linking heel and toe edge movements, Practice sliding turns on easy slop withcontrolling speed )

Now that balance feels natural, begin linking your heel and toe edge movements to initiate smooth turns. You’ll practice sliding turns on slightly steeper beginner slopes while learning to control your speed and stop precisely. Instructors provide one-on-one feedback to fine-tune your posture, stance, and board control.

Day 5

Linking Turns and Building Flow (Linking turns, small traverses,
Gain confidence in using both edges )

Focus on connecting turns fluidly and riding across the slope with confidence. This phase enhances coordination and teaches you how to ride both edges effectively. By the end of the day, most participants can ride a continuous line down a gentle slope, maintaining rhythm and control.

Day 6

Longer Runs and Terrain Confidence  ( Friendly runs-Phase 1 top area or chairlift beginner zones, Consistency & smoother transitions,  Build endurance & adapt to different snow conditions)

Graduate to the longer beginner runs at Gulmarg’s Phase 1 area or designated training slopes accessed by chairlift. Learn to adapt your technique to different snow types and slope gradients while improving transitions between turns. This day emphasizes endurance, smoother movements, and reading the terrain ahead.

Day 7

Full Run Challenge and Intro to Freestyle ( Full-length beginner run top to bottom, Try gentle freestyle movements like basic jumps, little side hit if confident, Graduation ride & final test )

Bring everything together for your first full top-to-bottom snowboard run. Enjoy the thrill of carving down the slope with confidence, showcasing your progress from the week. For those comfortable with the basics, this day also introduces light freestyle techniques such as small hops, side hits, and gentle jumps. Conclude the course with a fun “graduation ride,” celebrating your growth as a new snowboarder.

Day 8

Departure Day – Farewell from Gulmarg

Your snowboarding journey in Gulmarg comes to an end today. After breakfast, bid farewell to your instructors and course mates before beginning your return trip to Srinagar. The transfer from Gulmarg to Srinagar is not included in the course fee, but participants can coordinate travel through the WhatsApp group. If time permits, enjoy a peaceful shikhararide on Dal Lake before heading home, carrying unforgettable memories of your first snowboarding adventure in the Himalayas.
