Best Time to Go Skiing
The months of January and February usually offer the best skiing conditions. The snowfall is at its peak, and the slopes are covered with fresh, powdery snow. The temperature can drop significantly, often reaching sub-zero levels, so be prepared for cold weather. However, this is when you'll find the best skiing conditions and a winter wonderland.
Difficulty Level
Skiing requires physical endurance. You'll be skiing and carrying your skis daily, requiring a strong core and good fitness.
While previous skiing experience isn't necessary, being physically prepared is beneficial. Ideally, you should be able to jog 5 km in under 35 minutes, demonstrating the cardiovascular fitness required for the course. Incorporating resistance-based workouts can enhance your comfort and enjoyment throughout the course.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Gulmarg
Our Basic Skiing Course is set in Gulmarg, India's Skiing Capital. Travel from Srinagar to Gulmarg is not covered in the course fee; you can coordinate costs with fellow participants via our WhatsApp group.
Arrive at the Gulmarg resort, where you'll meet your course mates and instructors. Be prepared for variable winter weather, with daytime temperatures around -5 degrees Celsius, and bring warm, layered clothing for the ski site.
Day 2
Start from Ski fitting, Gliding & Side Stepping Technique
Today marks the start of your skiing journey. We'll begin by familiarizing you with ski equipment—boots, poles, and skis, all provided. You'll learn proper boot fitting, ensuring a snug fit while allowing toe movement. Attaching boots to skis involves adjusting the heel cup symmetrically.
Our instructors will guide you on the correct way to grip ski poles. Then, it's time for your first practical lesson on a gentle slope. To save time ascending the slope, you'll learn the Side Stepping technique. This method lets you ascend on skis by positioning them perpendicularly to the slope and using their edges for support.
Glide down repeatedly until you feel at ease with your gear. Our team will be there, ensuring you're comfortable and confident every step of the way during the Basic Skiing Course.
Day 3
Immersive Skiing Experience on Gulmarg’s Baby Slope (Controlled fall and snow Ploughing)
Today's skiing adventure takes you to Gulmarg's Baby Slope. Of the five slopes here, three are for beginners: Baby Slope, Highland Park Slope, and Slope 85.
We'll begin on the Baby Slope, focusing on controlled falls to prevent injuries. Next, you'll dive into the snow plough technique, emphasizing control over speed.
After several runs, we'll progress up the slope, culminating in a full-length snow plough descent. The day ends around 4 or 5 pm, likely leaving you tired. Rest at your resort, then explore Gulmarg's beauty in the evening if you wish.
Day 4
Stem turns and parallel skiing
Morning sessions will focus on refining snowplough and snowplough turns. After lunch, your instructor will introduce you to stem turns on the Baby Slope.
Stem turns bridge the gap between snowplough and parallel techniques. While snowplough naturally slows you down, parallel skiing increases speed. During parallel skiing, you'll notice increased speed. Previous training will prompt you to shift to snowplough for slowing down. Resist this urge and maintain the parallel position until you're ready to turn. Transition to snowplough only during the turn.
Day 5
Progressing to the Highland Park Slope and Slope 85
Today presents a challenging shift as we tackle the Highland Park Slope and Slope 85.
In the morning, you'll navigate the Highland Slope using a mix of snowplough and snowplough turns. Initially, the focus is on maintaining balance and adapting to the Highland Slope's steeper, longer, and trickier terrain.
After lunch, we'll transition to Slope 85, where you'll practice several runs until evening. Following the day's efforts, return to your resort to rest up. Tomorrow promises to be a significant day in your skiing journey.
Day 6
Descend from Phase 1 slope (Gondola Ride to the top of Phase 1 )
Following a satisfying breakfast, we'll embark on an exciting journey using the gondola to reach the summit of Phase 1. Your course fee includes tickets for this scenic ride. As the gondola ascends, the excitement mounts, treating you to stunning vistas of Phase 1's slopes below. Phase 1 itself begins at an elevation of 10,000 ft and descends to 7,000 ft, offering a well-maintained yet challenging terrain that includes steep sections.
The landscape remarkably differs from Gulmarg's beginner slopes, featuring rocks, gravel, and soil mixed with hard and soft snow, creating a demanding skiing experience. Expect some falls along the way.
Upon completing Phase 1, you have the option for another run or taking the Gondola from Phase 1 (10,000 ft) to Phase 2 (14,000 ft), leading to the Apharwat Peak's summit. The views from Phase 2 are breathtaking, but be mindful of altitude effects during this ascent.
Day 7
Skiing from phase 1 Gondola top , Skiing Competition, Certification and Medal Distribution
oday is your chance to showcase your skiing skills and knowledge. Your instructor will assess both theory and practical aspects, grading you for certification. Expect evaluations on snowplough, snowplough turns, side-stepping, and stem turns with parallel skiing. We'll use the morning to refine skills with a Phase 1 practice run followed by a mini slalom-style race on a slope chosen by your instructor.
The day concludes with a closing ceremony where certificates and medals (gold, silver, and bronze for the race's top three) will be awarded. Afterward, we'll take a Gondola to Phase 1's summit, practice on the chairlift, and ski back down to the hotel.
Day 8
Depart from Gulmarg
Today marks the end of your skiing adventure. After breakfast, you can begin your journey to Srinagar, where, if the timing allows, you might even enjoy a tranquil shikhara ride before departing for home. Please note that the course fee doesn't cover travel from Gulmarg to Srinagar.
