Introduction

Nestled in the serene landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, the Futta Saur (Futta Sar) Lake Trek offers a serene escape just 15 kilometers from Manali's bustling tourist hub. At an altitude of 1851 meters on the left bank of the pristine Beas River, this trek unfolds in the foothills of the Pir Panjal Range in the Western Himalayas. Known as the "Mountains Of Lake," it entices with postcard-worthy vistas, an ideal retreat for those seeking peace.

As you explore this enchanting region, the Kullu Valley reveals its winter magic, free from crowds and blanketed in snow, creating a winter wonderland. The Futta Saur Lake Trek lets you immerse in this picturesque valley, nestled between the mighty Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges. Naggar, an ancient town on the left bank of the Beas River, offers sweeping views of the valley's Northwest. Naggar, once Kullu's capital and founded by Raja Visudhpal, epitomizes a picture-perfect destination with fertile fields, evergreen thickets, and crystal-clear waters against towering mountains. The Futta Saur Lake Trek promises unforgettable memories, a remarkable escape into the heart of the Western Himalayas that will leave you yearning for more.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: Reached Naggar (1800 mts) before Dinner in Hotel/Homestay

Naggar is a beautiful, quaint village located 22 km from Manali. Take a taxi or bus from the Manali bus stop to reach Naggar. Check into a hotel or a homestay. Retire for the night as we have 3 exciting days ahead of us.

Day 2

Day 2: Drive to Jana Village (2100 mts) and Trek start to Matikochar (2340 mts) 5 km (5 to 6 hours)

Trail: The trek unfolds through lush forests of majestic pines, cedars, and apple orchards, offering captivating views of the valley and snow-clad peaks. We reach the campsite of Matikchor for an overnight stay.

Campsite: Matickshor presents a panoramic vista of Kullu Valley. On clear nights, it feels as if there are two skies – one overhead, adorned with twinkling stars, and the second below, illuminated by glimmering artificial lights.

Day 3

Day 3: Matikochar (2340 mts) to Futta Saur Lake (3200 mts Approx.) and back to Matikochar (2340mts) 10 km (6-7 hours)

Trail: The trail initially ascends steeply but later eases into a gentle trek through dense pine, oak, and rhododendron forests, leading to picturesque meadows and the pristine Futta saur Lake.

Campsite: We spend the night at Matikchor campsite.

Milestone of the day: The trek leads to the first lake, 'Batarunaag Saur,' followed by a brief stroll to the enchanting 'Vasukinaag Saur.' Nearby, you'll find the elusive 'Futta Saur' and 'Mata Kotli Saur,' aptly named for their tendency to remain shrouded in mist, creating the illusion of being just a stone's throw away. These hidden gems add a touch of mystique to the journey.

Day 4

Day 4: Matikochar (2340 mts) to Dhath 12 km(7 to 8 hours) via Bijli Mahadev (2460 mts) and drive to Kullu 15 km (45 Minutes)

Trail: The last leg of the trek follows a gentle fair-weather road, treating hikers to stunning valley vistas. After walking for a while, we reach the famous temple of Bijli Mahadev. From the temple, we descend through pine forests to Chansari village. The trek concludes after about an hour. Transfer back to the base camp by vehicle for a memorable journey.

Milestone of the day: Bijli Mahadev holds mystique and miracles in its name, as lightning frequently strikes the Shiva linga within the temple, shattering it. The temple's charred parts, remnants of these lightning strikes, add to its intrigue. Perched atop Mathan hill, the temple offers scenic beauty.
