Brief description:

Kalihani Pass is the most unexplored part of the Dahuladar ranges of Himachal Pradesh. Kalihani Pass is at 15,912 ft. This untouched trail will mesmerize you at every step. Interestingly, it is also the part of majestic Bara Bhangal trail. Especially it connects the Kullu and Kangra valleys. Kalihani Pass trek leaves an astounding imprint. Besides breathtaking landscapes and visuals. Certainly, there are much more. Indeed it is a package filled with adventure.

Furthermore, Kalihani Pass is also known as Senghor jot traditionally. Which signifies the highest pass of shepherd valley. You also get to see the oldest ice formations and ancient glaciers. The whole alpine stretch is glacial. Which surely requires a lot of physical stamina and practice. It is called as shepherd’s route for a reason. While crossing the passing sheep are set free to graze. The spread out is just spectacular.

Kalihani Pass is a vast expanse of land, and you can relax in the wildflower stretch. Also, from the north wast side you get to see friendship peak, ladkahi, and other peaks of Manali. Explore the unexplored high-altitude mountain pass. Altogether a unique Himalayan trial. Filled with adventure tales, myths, and unknown wilderness.

Introduction:

Kalihani Pass trek in Himachal Pradesh is a high-altitude Himalayan trek. It is one of the best trekking regions in Manali. Starting from Hidimba’s thick forest trail to ancient glacial regions the scenario changes drastically. The spectacular landscape beauty of the great Himalayan range will put you in awe for sure. As you continue to climb up you will come across blooming rhododendron and wildflowers all around.

Undoubtedly, it comes with snow-capped peaks yet steep climbing. The almost major part of the trail is filled with moraine, scree, and a lot of snow. Also, you get to see the view of many other peaks of the pir panjal ranges. Such as Mt deo tibba, Mt indrasan etc. Not only that but you also get a closer view of Rani sui lake. It is also considered one of the sacred lakes. Amidst dense emerald meadows and glistening snows what more is needed?

Best Time to Trek

The best time to venture out to the Kalihani trek is mid-June to mid-October. The trail remains closed during the rest of the year due to bad weather and unfavorable conditions.

Until May-June, the trails are laden heavily with snow. You might even experience snowfall if the weather gets extreme. The month of August specifically is considered the best time to go. As the snow amount reduces. And the landscapes look splendid against the background of the majestic peaks.

Days are normally sunny and nights are colder. As the snow melts the milky white landscapes completely change into different colors such as blue, and green in the months of September-October. As the days get clear you will get to witness the hidden natural charms.

Difficulty Level

Kalhani trek is Moderate to Difficult. From day one, you will initiate with a zig-zag route filled with vegetation. Afterward, you will come across the vast expanse of meadows with some altitude gain. After that trail gets a little more challenging as you will come across a historical trail. Filled with scree, boulders, and rocks on the steep trails. You gain a high altitude of 15,748 ft gradually. , which increases the risk of AMS. If you attempt this trek in May-June, the tricky snowy trails and ancient glaciers make it more challenging.

You will also go through the most mysterious remote village named Bara Bhangal. The splendid meadows stir a magnificence of nature. As you climb higher and higher you will witness the glorious illuminated peaks. The scree and moraines are truly gaining momentum. So only experienced trekkers must tick the list off.
