Itinerary Description
Introduction
Panpatia Col trek is one of the most challenging treks done in the Gharwal district of Uttrakhand. Interestingly, it leads you to two holy shrines Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is at a challenging altitude of 5260 M. Moreover, it lies between two unnamed peaks of 5500 Mts. It is one of the least traversed paths in India, even among trekkers. The trek route is filled with moraines, high passes, massive glaciers, narrow cliffs, and stream crossing.
Panpatia Col trek is only meant for experienced high-altitude trekkers. It is quite a technical peak so you must be aware of the usage of ice axe, crampons, and roping procedures. This trek demands good physical health as well as mental endurance too. Especially the 7 km long Panpatia snowfield, the most difficult stretch. Also, the Panpatia Col trek offers you some indescribable views of some prominent peaks too.
Best Time to Trek:
The best preferred time to do the Panpatia Col trek is the summer months from mid-May to June. And also post-monsoon months September to early October. This trek will require a lot of acclimatization. The weather is quite favorable and pleasant during these months. Peaks are visible and clear. Also, we highly recommend you carry woolen clothes to keep you warm. As the temperature drops a lot during the evening. Especially after the post- monsoon the views of Panpatia Col trek are mind-blowing. As the snow melts you get to witness views of some prominent peaks such as Nilkantha, Balakum, Hathi peak, Dhauliganga Peaks.
Difficulty Level:
Panpatia Col trek is a difficult trek. It is a technical peak, which requires a lot of previous experience and endurance. You must be skilled in using ropes, crampons, harnesses, carabiners, and descenders. You have to reserve a minimum of 2 days for acclimatization. You will be crossing numerous crevasses, ridges, and boulder sections too. Make sure that you are physically and mentally fit.
